FAQs
At West Coast Video Productions we understand that taking on a video or multi-media project or staging a large event can be both exciting and overwhelming. That’s why we’ve prepared this page of Frequently Asked Questions based on our years of experience dealing with all kinds of clients. If you don’t see your question here, feel free to e-mail it to us and we will get back to you with an answer as soon as possible.
How much does it cost?
As with many things, it depends on the components of your project. Bids are created based on projected time and materials for the specifics of each project. Some companies quote a cost per finished minute that we believe is not helpful, as an unedited hour long lecture will cost much less per minute than a 30 second Super Bowl spot. All bids presented by WCVP include detailed line item breakouts so you see exactly where the money goes. We believe you will find our rates to be highly competitive.
What is a Project Prospectus?
At the beginning of each new project we prepare a body of documents which defines your project. These include the Creative Treatment, or synopsis of how we will handle your project, a Line Item Budget that spells out how the money is spent and a Production Schedule which lays out all the key dates important to complete your project on time. Taken together we call these documents the Project Prospectus.
How long does it take?
Again this depends on the nature of your project. Live to VHS can be handed to the client immediately after the event. A more complicated project will require a script, production and editing; all of which take time. Prior to the start of any project we discuss your deadlines and design a schedule that will meet those deadlines while maintaining a high quality product.
Who writes the scripts?
At WCVP we have written dozens of scripts. Sometimes the client wishes to take on this aspect of the project and if so, we work with you to create a script which communicates your message without breaking your budget.
How will we know what we will get?
Going into each project you will receive a detailed treatment that spells out the creative approach, the schedule and the budget. As projects get larger we build approval points into the schedule so that you are informed every step of the way. Some clients choose to be involved at every juncture and some are too busy, either way we assure that the completed project is what you expected going in.
Can I be in the video?
We have years of experience in working with all levels of talent. Sometimes the very best person to deliver a particular message is the principal of the company. We respect that and work with you to ensure you look your best.
Do I have to be in the video?
Some people choose to stay behind the camera for various reasons. We work with you in whatever way you are most comfortable. If together, we decide the best approach for your project is to hire professional talent, we work to find the best available talent for your project.
What if I have some footage already?
Usually it is best to shoot specific footage for a specific production, however sometimes you might have footage which would be difficult or impossible to recreate. We are happy to review such footage with you and come up with a plan which will best serve your message and budget.
